Chapter 2: History In A Glimpse

Our guy (I don’t remember his name. Let’s call him TLP for The Last Prophet) has been writing a journal of prophetic visions. Chapter 1 started with a peek into the journal entry in January 2009, and Chapter 2 is an entry from February 2009. (The book was published in 2006—happy 10-year anniversary, by the way—so I guess it counts as futuristic sci-fi for when it was written.)

This journal entry catches us up on the history of Plenarius – “The Gooder Planet.” ™ Since Rets and Damei (Adam and Eve) were creationisted and not evolutioned, it was up to their sons and daughters to populate the planet. Since they only have weak-sauce sin, everybody gets to live thousands of years.

The hints of dispensationalism from Chapter 1 are confirmed when TLP states “It seemed as if it were the Millennial Kingdom,” meaning the pre-tributionalist interpretation of a 1,000-year Jesus-ruled dominion.

Eventually there are people who get tired of the whole “the Lord this, the Lord that” thing. People start blaspheming, which isn’t a good idea on a world of religiously conservative zealots. Murder is the only acceptable solution for the unfaithful, except somehow being shot into space is okay. Some of these space-bound blasphemers end up crashing on Hamartia—“The Not So Gooder Planet.” ™

Meanwhile, Plenarius develops its technology. It makes electric walls to keep the dinosaurs out of its cities. They develop a water-powered light saber (proton sword) and light saber shields. There is a magical sword which glows (when orcs are near).

Eventually, a king descended from Rets starts making preparations for an eventual attack from Hamartia. Unlike most previous rulers, he prides himself in his ability to lead and defend, and doesn’t depend on the God to help.

That’s all the history that could fit in a glimpse.

What will happen next? Will Plenarius (still) invade? Will intolerance be the end of Plenarius? Will tolerance? Stay tuned to find out…
