Chapter 8: The Fallout

"In every city, every breathing enemy whether man, woman, or child was put to death."

Well this chapter really started with a bang! I love the smell of  napalm in the morning!

So because of Rakak's decision to betray Kabob and give the king the Terminator army, the king used the Terminators to wipe out every person in every city on the entire continent. Great job, Rakak! Good idea there, buddy! Gold star!

Is there a way for Kabob or someone to go back in time and prevent Rakak from being born, or maybe find a way to kill baby Rakak? Just think of how many lives could be saved if Rakak never existed... literally millions.

So a few days after wiping out every single person on the entire continent (which continent, I'm not sure) the king summons Rakak. The king is in a shitty mood because he just sacrificed his daughter to the snake god, and he takes out his frustration on Rakak. He throws incense bowls and chews Rakak out for not telling him about Kabob and his sister. Rakak tries to explain, and is like "But, but I banished them to an island! They're probably dead already!" But the king says "Tricks and lies! Tricks and lies!" and throws Rakak in the dungeon... for the next twenty-five years.

After two years in prison, the king summons Rakak, and Kabob is in the throne room with the king. Kabob is like "My life for his! Take me and let Rakak go!" and the king is like "Nope!" and chops Kabob's head off. Or something. Anyway, Kabob is dead. Why Kabob offered to trade places with Rakak I don't know. And there is no mention of Kabob's sister, so I have no clue what happened to her.

Rakak goes back to prison and then after a while the king summons him again, and is like "You are going to Plenarius to spy for me." So Rakak teaches a group of spies how to speak Plenarian, and they all have plastic surgery to make them look more Plenarian. I don't really know what a Plenarian looks like (I thought in The Last Prophet's Book the Plenarians looked exactly like humans/Hamartians but were super tall) but apparently they have a different skin color than humans/Hamartians. What color that is, I don't know. "We underwent several surgeries to make us more Plenarian in appearance. Some had their skin made darker and others had it made lighter."

So by the time Rakak is leaving on his spy mission, the twenty-five years in prison have finally passed, and he is now fifty years old. Old Man Rakak and his spy crew sneak onto Plenarius in a namakil ship which gets blown up. A space station also gets blown up for some reason as they are sneaking in.

Rakak takes a lot of notes on Plenarius, and after a couple of years he becomes a librarian. As more years pass, he finally begins to mellow out. Hell, it has now been decades since he has last decapitated someone! I would call that mellow. Rakak is now a chill, bookish, nerdy, spectacle-wearing, sweater-donning kindly librarian in his fifties. It's hard to even imagine him blowing up cities with atomic bombs, fighting in gladiator battles, murdering homeless people, etc.

But all good things must come to an end. Even though Old Man Rakak is enjoying the librarian life, he realizes he must complete his spy mission and return to Hamartia with information for the king. And so with tears in his eyes, he hops into the back of a VW microbus, taking shovels and rakes and other implements of destruction and heads on toward Hamartia, realizing that there is no TIME TO TURN BACK.
