Chapter 3: The Raw Law
Barar, or "Giatros" as he now wants to be known, tumbles out of the transporter onto the prison colony world. Regla, the de facto leader, assigns him to repairing broken down electronics on the world. Other prisoners, including the unjustly accused Judge Pierano, are assigned less glamorous roles such as miner, farmer, and mess hall.
Life is more or less how you would expect on a prison colony. A chummy guy named Old Falafel casually mentions that he once saw a time machine doing random things on Plenarius. A new arrival sticks his head through the transporter and has it transported off. It's okay; the medics still try to revive him.
Barar's high school (?) buddies are still obsessed with forming a more perfect union, and leave with Regla's blessing to start their own colony town.
A year passes. Barar discovers ships flying in the atmosphere. After [insert technobabble here], Barar deduces where he can find the next ship landing on the planet. He hikes out and discovers it is one of several unmanned ships working to terraform the planet. He brings it back to the prison colony to decide what to do with it.
Hmm... shall we cannibalize the ship that is providing life support on our planet? Call me a...
SKEPTIC
I am impressed that COW has introduced Regla, who is not only a major female character, but a butch dyke at that!
ReplyDeleteMy take on the chapter was everyone ends up on Regla's Lesbian Paradise Prison Planet, and the prisoners get chips implanted in their necks. The planet is super fun, and everyone basically live action roleplays Stardew Valley every day, and then Barar invents the the drinking cup, and then he finds a ship that creates kittens to populate the planet. Good times!
